Taking care of me

It's been  a while since I have written. I have been making decisions regarding my health. I am diabetic diagnosed with type 2 which stemmed from being diabetic during my last pregnancy. It has been a struggle, having this disease and raising a family, especially a son with Special Needs. I haven't always put myself first. Over the years I have had increasingly bad health, due to my diabetes, subsequent denial of it and lack of personal time that has lead to my health issues.

So I feel the time has come for me to take care of me. With more personal time on my hands I can now concentrate on what I need to do to become healthy. I have gotten back to counting carbohydrates, and eating more healthy. I also am calculating my insulin to carb ratio which helps me to manage my blood sugar levels appropriately, resulting in a healthier me.

However it is a burden to always remember to take my insulin, making sure that I have my insulin with me at work, when I go out etc. To make this task easier I have decided to purchase an Insulin Pump http://www.animas.com/animas-insulin-pumps/onetouch-ping. This little machine is no bigger than a cell phone and will change my life! I am now going through the process of insurance to pay for it, as it costs $7000! Once I receive it, I will need to be trained in how to use it. I can't wait! This will take the place of my pancreas and will mean no more shots for me! Going from 5 to 6 shots a day to changing a inset (needle) every 3 days will be amazing.

This will make my life so much easier, at work, at home, where ever I am. I will keep you updated on my progress with my new pump and my life's challenges. I have learned that your life won't change unless you make it change. I am so excited that I am taking this step forward.

Prayers with you, my friend. I hope everything works out.

Take care of yourself and get some rest, okay?
